The price of the motorway brand is determined according to the category of the vehicle, the data entered in the technical card is decisive. In Hungary, motorway tolls are mandatory for four categories of vehicles.

The ten-day vignette starts on the day specified by the buyer and ends on the tenth day at midnight. The monthly stamp is valid from the date specified by the buyer for the entire next month. The annual stamp is valid for 13 months, from January 1 to January 31 of the following year. The annual regional Hungarian stamp is for paid sections in these regions. The validity period is the same as for the annual motorway toll.
If you enter the fee by mistake, you have 60 minutes from entry to purchase the e-stamp.

Fines for road vignettes
Drivers without a valid motorway mark face a €49 fine. If paid after 60 days, the fine will increase to 195 euros. The stamps are checked through a camera system at the crossing points, a driver without a motorway stamp will be automatically fined. There is also a penalty if you buy a highway for the wrong category of vehicle.

Where to stick a road vignette
The Hungarian car vignette does not need to be glued anywhere. When buying at a point of sale, you select a stamp according to the required validity period, enter the vehicle registration number and the country in which the vehicle is registered. The seller will provide you with a verification sheet, which you will sign to verify the authenticity of the information provided.
When selling online on the Internet, the purchase is confirmed by a notification from the service provider. In the case of a roadside check, proof of payment must be provided. In addition, according to current legislation, these certificates must be kept for two years from the last day of validity of the motorway mark.
In Hungary, in addition to a fine, you can get three demerit points for speeding more than 25%. The total number of points is 18. Penalty points are valid for three years.
If the driver is unable or unwilling (administrative proceedings) to pay the fine, the police may seize the vehicle. This also applies to foreigners. As part of the fight against corruption, payment by credit card is possible and fixed fines are established for certain offenses. If you pay in cash, the police officer is required to give you a receipt for the payment of the amount.

Hungary has a system of penalty points for traffic violations. When a driver reaches 18 demerit points, they lose their driver’s license and can only reapply after a six-month ban and after completing the course.

Tires
There is no general obligation for winter tires in Hungary, but their use is recommended. They are obligatory only on sections of roads marked with appropriate road signs.
The minimum tread depth for winter tires is 3 mm.
In winter, snow chains must be brought to Hungary in case of worsening weather conditions. Without them, you may not be allowed into the country.
Seat belts
The use of seat belts is mandatory for all seats equipped with them.
Children in the car
Children under 150 cm must be transported in a child seat or seated in a child seat.
Children under 3 years of age can be transported in the front seat in a rear-facing child seat. In this case, the front passenger airbag must be deactivated.
Alcohol while driving
Hungary has zero tolerance for alcohol in the blood. If the blood alcohol level is measured up to 0.8‰, a fine of 45 euros to 900 euros is imposed. For the blood alcohol content of more than 0.8 ‰, criminal proceedings will be opened.
