AUTHORIZATION TO USE THE ROAD WITH E-VIGNETTE
The toll collection system with the purchase of an e-vignette includes motorcycles, passenger cars and their trailers, as well as trucks with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 t, camper vans and buses and their trailers.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE E-VIGNETTE
- The authorization to use the road must always be paid before entering the toll area; purchased e-vignettes do not mean retroactive authorization to use the road. In case of purchase within the validity period, the date of purchase is always considered the beginning of validity.
- If you buy more than one e-vignette at once, always specify the driving (use) dates precisely.
- To avoid unauthorized use of the road, always check the following information on the inspection sheet when purchasing: registration number, country code, vehicle category and expiration date.
- In the case of electronic purchase of road use authorization, a confirmation message is considered proof of purchase.
As of January 1, 2017, changes are being introduced in relation to the fast payment network and to shares without charging a fee, so please study the information below in detail.
SHARES WITHOUT CHARGE OF FEE
In accordance with the toll regulation, no toll is charged for the following sections:
- The following sections of the M0 expressway:
- The section between the main road No. 1 and the M5 highway,
- The section between the M4 expressway (expressway sign 4) and the M3 highway,
- Megyeri Bridge (section between Main Road 2 and Main Road 11).
- M31 motorway,
- The section of the southwest Pécs loop of the M60 motorway between road no. 58 and road no. 5826,
- M8 motorway,
- M9 motorway on the section between main road 6 and main road 51,
- M9 expressway (marked main road no. 61) Kaposvár bypass,
- M4 expressway (main road sign 4) on the section between Vecsés and the road leading to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport.

The e-vignette price list is valid from January 1, 2017. In any case, the fee is the gross amount, which includes VAT.
Monthly and annual national e-vignettes and annual regional e-vignettes for motorcycles can be purchased at prices valid for the D1 category.
VEHICLE CATEGORIES
The vehicle category for a motor vehicle is always determined according to the official designation that appears on the vehicle’s traffic license (maximum permitted gross weight of the motor vehicle and number of permitted passengers).
The seating capacity of the vehicle must be determined based on the official entry that appears in the traffic license ( S.1. – vehicle number, including the driver’s seat ), instead of the number of seats that can be seen inside the vehicle.
D1 vehicle category: motorcycles and passenger vehicles whose maximum permissible total weight does not exceed 3.5 tons, for the transport of up to 7 vehicles including the driver of the passenger vehicle, with trailers;
D2 vehicle category: all passenger vehicles that are not included in category D1 (which, for example, are suitable for transporting more than 7 people) and cargo vehicles with a maximum permissible total weight of 3.5 tons and camper vans;
B2 vehicle category: buses – motor vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers, with more than 9 permanent seats, including the driver’s seat;
VALIDITY PERIOD OF THE E-VIGNETTE
Weekly authorization: valid from the initial day specified by the customer and the following 9 consecutive days, a total of 10 calendar days until midnight on the tenth day.
Monthly authorization: valid from the starting day specified by the customer until midnight of the day with the same number in the following month. If there is no such day in the month of expiration, then it is valid until the 24th hour of the last day of the month.
National Annual Authorization: valid from the first day of the relevant year until midnight on 31st January of the following year (13 months in total if the purchase is made on 1st January of the relevant year). The annual vignette offers authorization to use the road within a period of validity starting from the date of purchase. Annual regional authorisation: type of annual e-vignette based on the territory – regional vignette
- it is available for vehicles in categories D1M, D1, D2, U and B2, and it is possible to use the fast payment network within the county.
It is possible to buy several regional e-vignettes for each vehicle. The term of validity of such authorization coincides with the term of the annual authorization for use. The scope of validity exceeds the borders of the respective county, up to the first traffic junction after the county border. Annual county vignettes can be purchased for the following counties (which have a network of toll roads)
Bács-Kiskun, Baranya, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád, Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar,
UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THE ROAD
If you drive on a toll section with an e-vignette without authorization to use the road, this is considered unauthorized use of the road, which results in the obligation to pay a fine for each of the previously regulated vehicle categories.
- if the authorization to use the road was purchased for the wrong category; for example, the bus is towing an additional trailer, and the authorization was purchased only for category B2 (instead of B2 + U), or a weekly or monthly authorization for category D1 was purchased for a passenger vehicle for 8 or more persons, instead of category D2;
- if the license plate number and/or the country code on the control sheet or in the confirmation message do not match the vehicle’s actual license plate number and/or country code;
- if you have an annual permit for the specified county, but you do not use it between the traffic nodes specified in the permit, you are therefore using the toll road network of another county.
