Crossing the Georgian border

To cross the state line of Georgia on cars, you will need the following documents in addition to your passport:

  • driver license
  • Vehicle registration

In case the owner of the vehicle stays at home, it is necessary to have a notarized power of attorney     in English     . It does not need to be translated into Georgian.

Georgia has no obligation to have compulsory insurance of vehicles and liability to third parties.

Currently, you can legally enter Georgia by car from the territory of Russia, passing   only    through the checkpoint “Darialy (Kazbegi) – Upper Lars”.

Since June 1, 2013,      the Upper Lars checkpoint has been operating around the clock    .

This decision was made due to the fact that long queues have accumulated at the border, especially in summer.

Previously, the operating time was limited to the following interval:

  • from March 1 to November 1 – from 6.00 to 22.00
  • from November 1 to March 1 – from 7.00 to 19.00

Before traveling, it makes sense to check the situation at the border, because due to weather events or natural disasters, the passage through the border may be blocked.
